Unlocking Potential One Milestone At A Time

Understanding Occupational Therapy
Paediatric occupational therapy (OT) is a type of therapy that helps children develop the skills they need to navigate everyday life.
Occupational Therapists work with children to improve their ability to perform daily activities, such as playing, learning and interacting with others, by addressing underlying physical, emotional or cognitive challenges.
What Does Paediatric OT Focus On?
Paediatric OT focuses on helping children develop the skills they need to:
Play and engage with toys and peers
Develop fine motor skills (e.g using scissors, holding a pencil)
Improve gross motor skills (e.g. running, jumping, balance)
Regulate sensory experiences (e.g. managing sounds, sights, or textures)
Develop self-care skills (e.g. dressing, feeding, toileting)
Build social skills (e.g. interacting with peers, sharing, taking turns)
Manage emotions and behaviours
School readiness (e.g cognition, learning)
Is OT Right For My Child?
Is your child facing challenges due to:

Developmental delays
Autism spectrum disorder
ADHD
Sensory processing disorder
Physical disabilities
Learning difficulties
Occupational Therapy supports children with a wide range of needs, including autism, ADHD, developmental delays, learning difficulties, sensory processing challenges, and physical disabilities. It can also benefit children who do not have a formal diagnosis, promoting development and participation in everyday activities.

If concerns arise about your child's developmental progress or ability to perform age-related tasks, scheduling an assessment with a paediatric occupational therapist may be beneficial. The therapist will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to determine if occupational therapy is suitable. One of the key advantages of occupational therapy is its adaptability to children of all ages, from infancy to adolescence. By addressing challenges early and fostering essential skills, occupational therapy can empower children to become more independent, confident, and successful across various aspects of life. This therapeutic approach supports overall growth and development, enabling children to thrive.
